Of an old Somersetshire, England family 3/4/1652 Land patent in Northampton Co, Virginia, 350 acres 3/25/1652 Signed (with 116 other persons) the "Engagement rendered to ye Inhabitants of Northampton County," by which they promised "to be true and faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it is now Established without King or House of Lords 2/28/1662 Land patent in Northampton Co, Virginia, 350 acres 1663 Settled in Annemessex, s side of the Great Annemessex River on a tract of 1,400 acres of land, located between Jones' Creek (west) and Coulbourne's Creek (east). This tract he patented in June, 1679, under the name of "Pomfret" 3/26/1664 Commissioned as "Lieutenant under Captain William THORNE of the foot company at present and to be raised by him between Choptank river and a line drawne east into the Mayne Ocean from Watkins Point". 1/11/1665 Registered cattle mark 3/1667 COULBOURNE, along with Stephen HORSEY & William THORNE, were recommended by the court of Somerset to the proprietary authority that one of them might be appointed sheriff of Somerset for the year 1668. COULBOURNE failed to receive the office at this time. 2/1669 Commissioned "to be Captain of a company of foot from Manokin to Pocomoke" 2/1670 Member of the Commission of the Peace for Somerset County and continued until 1673 10/1673 Commissioned as "captain and commander of a troop of horse to be raised from among the residents of Somerset County"; High Sheriff of the county 11/1675 High Sheriff of the county 3/1676 Member of the Commission of the Peace for Somerset County until his death in 1689 2/16/1677 To return speedily to Somerset from St Mary's re indian outrages 1681 "COULBOURNE, a Protestant, commands the foot raised in Somerset & Dorchester counties" 11/13/1683 Commissioner 7/1687 Designated by the Lord Proprietor of the province to head a commission to draw up a treaty with the Nanticoke Indains. The commission was successful in its undertaking and the treaty was jointly signed on August 11, 1687. 1688 Coulbourne was "Coll: of the foot in said county" 11/28/1689 Signed Advice of Loyalty (WIlliam Jr signed at the same time, did he sign his deceased father's name???)

William married Anne in Jul 1656 in Northampton Co, VA. (Anne was born circa 1623 in England and died circa 1670 in Annemessex, Somerset Co, Maryland.)

William next married Margaret Cooper about 1671. (Margaret Cooper was born about 1644 and died before 1689.)
