General Notes:
William S. Burton, prominent in the commercial life of Seaford, came to DE from MD as a young man and spent some time in the Hood Store in Laurel learning the business. In 1890 he removed to Seaford and entered the hardware business, succeeding the firm of Hargrove & Coolidge, and later purchasing the business of J. M. Johnson, continuing to supply the trade of both these enterprises. Business prospered until his death in 1916. Active in civic affairs: member of Town Council; Seaford School Board; leading member of Methodist Episcopal Church (W. L. Bevan, 1929).
William married Elizabeth Ann Russell on Feb 12, 1889 in Laurel, DE, by Rev. J. O. Sypherd. (Elizabeth Ann Russell was born on May 14, 1866 in Galestown, Dorchester CO, MD, died in 1954 and was buried in Seaford Odd Fellows Cmtry.)
