Graduate of the Music School of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa and taught music in Iowa schools. She moved to Salisbury to be Organist, Choir Director and Secretary at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. She later became Organist and Choir Director at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury. In 1968, she returned to Asbury as Administrative Director, from which position she retired in 1982. She was an accomplished musician in violin, piano and organ and was active in local music circles.
Arla married Harry Graham Hayman Jr., son of Harry Graham Hayman and Jennie Belle Bradley, on Oct 4, 1942. (Harry Graham Hayman Jr. was born on May 6, 1917, died on Apr 17, 2009 in Seaford, DE and was buried in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury..)
