bullet  General Notes:

Taken in at age 11-12 by AJ & Lizzie and later by Frank & Mary when mother was taken ill by TB, moved to Salisbury sanitarium and later died. Sister Mildred taken in by AJ & Lizzie. William Graham, Harry Lank & Hayman Lank were all of same age and played together as kids. Seaford Leader, 1-19-1962: "Hayman, who lives in the same home in which he was born, is a genuine Seaford native. He went to Seaford schools and was a member of the first class to spend its entire senior year in the school bldg on duPont Rd. Several yrs of schooling was spent in church basements, lodge rooms, and converted store buildings while the new school was being erected following the fire that destroyed the old Cannon Street school. Hayman played basketball in school and made an outstanding academic record. Following Seaford High, Hayman went on to the Univ. of Del. for two and a half yrs, leaving to accept a position with Eastern Shore Public Service Co. as a service man in Millington, MD. A year later the company transferred him to Rehobeth, where for two yrs he remained in the service dept. and where he met a blonde charmer, Elva Burton, who became his bride. In 1937 the company moved him to Seaford to take over mgt of the local office. This was at the time that Seaford was battling to start its own power producing operations. In 1939 ESPSC discontinued its Seaford office and transferred Hayman to Laurel to serve as District Mgr for the utility. In 1943 his work shifted to Federalsburg, where he remained as a District Mgr until 1947. In 1945 his brother-in-law, Floyd Aden, and he formed a partnership and bought out Harry Fahrney's interest in The Certified Cleaners, located on Pearl St. near the Post Office. They made a success of the dry cleaning operation with Floyd coming in to work during the morning and afternoon and Hayman coming in from Federalsburg after finishing his utility work. In 1950, after it became clear that Certified Cleaners had become a success, Hayman resigned from the utility, bought out his brother-in-law's interest, and began fulltime work at his cleaners. In 1958 he moved the store to a new facility on Stein Hwy....Hayman served for 14 yrs as a judge of elections here, capping his interest in politics with serving 6 yrs on City Council, where he served on the electric committee, the fire house committee and the budget committee. He is a past treasurer of the Seaford Lions Club, a member of the board of Mt. Olivet Church, a member of the West Sussex Democrat Club and an active member of the Delmarva Cleaners Association....For many years Hayman has demonstrated his interest and faith in Seaford. He is a steller citizen, one whom the community is proud to recognize."
