1860 Census for NW Fork Hundred (created 1775 from Dorchester Co., MD) lists Wm. Messick, 41, wheelwright; Mary E., 40; John E., 14; Martha, 12; Maria, 10; William, 7; Ann E., 4; Eliza, 62 and born in MD (all others born in DE); Jacob, 22, carpenter.
1870 Census for Seaford Hundred (created in 1869 from NW Fork Hd) lists Wm. Messick, 51, merchant; Mary, 50, keeping house; Marian (Fem.), 20, no occupation; William, 16; Anna, 14, and George, 9, all attending school. Also in the household is Jacob Messick, 32, house "joiner" (hard to decipher). Different hundred does not necessarily mean this family moved between 1860 and 1870.
1880 Census for Sussex County: 260 Messicks! 30 June Census for Seaford, Seaford Hd, Sussex, DE: William Messick, 61, house carpenter, b. DE as were parents; Mary, 59, b. DE as were parents; William, 28, "works factory"; Mariah, 30; George, 19. Included in household are William's son John, 34, and Emma, 25, wife; Edward T., 7; Nellie J., 5; James U., 1. Also in household are dtr Martha Scott, 33; Willis Scott, 15; Clarence Scott, 9; Elizabeth Scott, 5.

William married Mary E. Williams, daughter of Planner Williams and Althea, on Feb 11, 1843. (Mary E. Williams was born on Dec 1, 1819, died on Jan 29, 1892 and was buried in Seaford Odd Fellows Cmtry.)
